Ideas to boost your Happy Hormones!

Yes, it’s me again, third blog in and I’m becoming quite addicted, however I am aware I need to get my referencing kicked into touch so apologies, absolute throw back to my MSc days!

So, on this blog I wanted to just sing the praises and fire out some very simple ideas for daily ways to help boost your happy hormones!  We must show them more love people!

I’ve recently been reading as part of my own professional development within my physio role about hormones and their close interactions with mood, diet, and their functions in relation to peri/menopause, its intriguing how stress and diet effect our oestrogen and other hormone levels and overall emotional and physical presentation.

Modern life can leave us feeling a little out of sorts, very discombobulated, stressed and let’s be honest not always the happiest.  I sometimes feel we have lost the ability to just let go, exhale, set worries free and even if it’s for a few minutes in a day have a bloody good laugh. 

So, what’s a simple way we can easily start to reconnect, to help boost our mood and start to make some changes to help those happy hormones rise in our daily busy routines ?

This is where the absolute wonder of essential oils can help play a part in our life in very simple ways to help get the happy hormones ripple effect going.  Significant amounts of studies have shown these naturally occurring delights and wonders of the world may not only help make us feel happier, more grounded and balance, they may also help us connect to life and the things around us working naturally with our own bodies systems and hormones.

So, Let’s talk quickly about a few of these happy hormones and the fabulous naturally occurring superstar essential oils that can help boost them, some of my personal favourite hormone and essential oil partnerships must be:

 Happy Hormones

Oxytocin: “love hormone” associated with positive feelings, trust, and relationship building.  Fully embrace these oxytocin boosting Oils, Rose and Jasmine, Rose giving you a feeling of a warm hug and comfort and jasmine said to help ease tension and stress.

Serotonin:  The happy hormone” and mood stabiliser, associated with feelings of calmness & happiness.  Inhale these delightful wonders, Lavender & Lemon, these two fragrant beautifies are core within the essential oil top happiness boosters, Lavender, can be said to sooth and calm, while Lemon can energising, brighten your soul and uplift your spirits.

Dopamine: The hormone associated with drive and enthusiasm, feelings of motivation and being focused. Try out Rosemary, one of my all-time favourites, rosemary has been seen to improve focus and alertness, such a wonderful fragrance, just the instant smell of this makes me smile!

Simple achievable ways to slip essential oils into your daily routine and help boost those happy hormones!

1.     In the shower! Organic natural oil Soaps, relax and cleanse your skin with some beautiful handmade essential oil soaps.

2.     Soak it up! Bath salts packed with essential oil goodies, relax, exhale, and why not add to the experience with an aromatherapy candle and cup of herbal tea!

3.     Inhale the mood, Diffusers, inhale, exhale and just breath all the essential oil love in.  I use oil diffusers in my physio clinic with great outcomes, just make sure you clean them regularly!

4.     Meditation rituals, Eye pillows with essential oils either within or added, great for relaxation and calming of the nervous system as part of your meditation routine.

5.     Roll with-it, roll-on aromatherapy, apply it to pulse points, behind ears, wrists ect, the best natural fragrance you can wear.

All very simple everyday activities and products that can help along with diet, exercise and socialising that can help boost those happy hormones people!  Till next time keep on inhaling :)
